NDP vice presidents promise Vincentians ‘better way of life’

The two vice presidents of the New Democratic Party (NDP) are promising Vincentians a better way of life, if their party is voted into government at the next General Elections.

St Clair ‘Major’ Leacock, representative for Central Kingstown and Roland ‘Patel’ Matthews, the representative for North Leeward both made these declarations during a meeting at the Layou Waterfront last Saturday.

The meeting was held under the theme “Democracy on Trial”, with a focus on the recently concluded petitions case.

“I will be extremely hard on every single candidate in the New Democratic Party to deliver victory for the New Democratic Party. If that’s not the mission, get out of the race,” Leacock said to the gathering. “Our people have suffered too much and I ain’t speaking half way. We deserve it, we are working hard for it. Our people want it and we must deliver it. I’m under no doubt that with a New Democratic Party government, life will be better in St Vincent and the Grenadines.”

He shared his thoughts that Unity Labour Party (ULP) supporters have had enough of the political party and that NDP supporters were ready for a new government.

And the Central Kingstown representative declared that this was the last time that he would be in opposition in Parliament.

St Clair ‘Major’ Leacock, representative for Central Kingstown

“It is the last, last time, I’m sitting down in the opposition bench in St Vincent and the Grenadines and that means between now and whenever the election bell is called, I’m giving it my all…it means that we have over 35,000 people who are waiting for us to do the work that has to be done to ensure elections. I’m a serious man when it comes to politics and we have to run on all 15 pistons in the New Democratic Party,”Leacock said.

He said his party would “start government from the bottom up and deliver to you a better St Vincent and the Grenadines”, as it is what they deserve.

Matthews, the North Leeward representative also echoed similar sentiments, saying that Vincentians should vote for change and ensure that “democracy prevails in this country”.

He said that persons were experiencing hardships unlike before, under the current government.

“People cannot send their children to school because they can’t make ends meet. You have to sometime borrow money to pay your light bill…come on people, never in St Vincent and the Grenadines we have these things before,” Matthews said.

Roland ‘Patel’ Matthews, the representative for North Leeward

He continued; “something is fundamentally wrong and what is wrong? The wrong government is in place. The government that you did not vote for, the government that thief the elections. New Democratic Party is the party of the people and should be supported to form the government of St Vincent and the Grenadines.”

And the North Leeward representative encouraged persons to come out in numbers to vote in the next election for his party, whose promises include a National Health Insurance programme, paid CSEC subjects for students and proper funding for the schools’ book loan scheme.

“The only how Vincentians, we can achieve this is with this man as your prime minister, Dr the Honourable Godwin Friday. We have to ensure that our people are given the best living standard possible…only the New Democratic Party can give that to you,” he said.
