Nine charged for numerous crimes throughout 2018

Nine young men who have racked up a number of serious offences throughout the year, have been granted bail, given curfews and are to report to the police stations closest to them.

The group of boys appeared before Chief Magistrate, Rechanne Browne-Matthias yesterday at the Serious Offences Court in Kingstown.

Glen residents, Andreas Bruce, D’Andre Peters and Ozem Oliver appeared on charges related to an armed robbery which took place on August 10 in Glen.

The trio was granted a composite bail of $5,000 with one surety.

They are expected to report to the Calliaqua Police Station on Mondays and Thursdays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Additionally, they were placed on curfew from 7 p.m.

The preliminary inquiry into the matter is set for November 27 and five witnesses are expected to appear before the court.

The chief magistrate said that if the three do not abide by the conditions laid out in court, then bail would be revoked.

Seventeen-year-old Timothy Nickie is jointly charged with Desron Bristol for several offences including armed robbery in the Villa area.

Browne-Matthias granted them a composite bail of $7,000 with one surety.

Bristol, who currently resides with his father in Ottley Hall, is expected to report to the Central Police Station twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays between 6am and 6pm.

Nickie, who is originally from South Rivers, is to report to the Colonarie Police Station on those same days.

A preliminary inquiry into the matter will take place on September 26 at the Serious Offences Court in Kingstown.

Nickie also appeared before the chief magistrate in relation to a number of other charges.

The teenager, along with Glen resident, Rolando Cato were granted a composite bail of $5,000 with one surety in relation to a matter of stealing items with a total value of EC$3194.50 from Gregory Ferrari’s dwelling house in Ratho Mill between July 24 and 25.

The two were placed on curfew from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Cato is to report to the Calliaqua Police Station while Nickie will report to the Colonarie Police Station twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays.

Sixteen-year-old Dale Hooper and Donroy Warner were also charged with the same offence.

They were also granted a composite bail of $5,000 with one surety and placed on curfew.

They are also expected to report to the Calliaqua Police Station on Mondays and Thursdays.

Both matters were adjourned and transferred to the Calliaqua Magistrate’s Court for September 10.

Cato, along with Bristol and a 15-year-old boy, appeared before the chief magistrate in relation to charges of entering the dwelling house of Gregory Ferrari in Ratho Mill and stealing items that have a total combined value of $2,394 on April 15.

The 15-year-old, being a minor, had to have his mother present in court with him. He is represented by Duane Daniel.

The three are to report to the Calliaqua Police Station on Mondays and Thursdays. They were also placed on curfew and granted a composite bail of $4000.

The preliminary inquiry into the matter will begin on November 30.

Additionally, Nickie has more charges before the court which include threatening to discharge a firearm, robbery and assault and causing bodily harm.

For the charges related to threatening to discharge a firearm, the 17-year-old was granted a composite bail of $10,000 with one surety and placed on curfew.

He is to report to the Colonarie Police Station three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 6am and 6pm.

Nickie is to surrender all travel documents and must seek permission if he wishes to leave the country.

A preliminary inquiry will begin on November 27.

Nickie, with two 16-year-olds, Dale Hooper and Ozem Oliver were granted a composite bail of $20,000 with one surety and placed on a 7pm curfew.

The three have similar charges which include “stealing and carrying away” four women.

Hooper and Oliver are also charged with damaging a vehicle without lawful excuse and assault and causing bodily harm, among others.

They are to report to the Calliaqua Police Station while Nickie is to report to the Colonarie Police Station three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 6am and 6pm.

A date for the preliminary inquiry into the matter is set for November 27.
