Junior Calypso, Soca Monarch competitions sound off today

The stage is set for the 2017 Junior Calypso and Junior Soca Monarch competitions, which will take place today at the Victoria Park.

The Junior Calypso Primary School Competition, which was won by Kristian Christopher of the Layou Government School last year, will see performances from Kiara Hazell of the Paradise Primary School, Bequia, with the song “Grenadines”; Jontiel Burke of the Paradise Primary School, Bequia, with “Fishing Line”; Alavonel Lavia of the Owia Government School with “Give me love”; Kaily Cyrus of the CW Prescott Primary School with “My idol”; Fidel Cyrus of the Kingstown Anglican School with “Never too Young”; Alexio Edwards of the Gomea Methodist School with “Lifestyle disease”; Eto Gordon of the Questelles Government School with “Playing de Mas” and Zakiyah Garrick of the Kingstown Government School with “Touch down at Argyle.”

“From Federation to Fragmentation”; Abigail Alexander of the Bishop’s College Kingstown with “Words of Encouragement”; Chachane Morgan of the St Vincent Girls’ High School with “Climate Change”; Ladonna Free of the West St George Secondary School with “Violence in School”; Javid Baptiste of the Sandy Bay Secondary School with “Too much Gun”; Keston Richardson of the Sandy Bay Secondary School with “Liars” and Daleann Nero of the Sandy Bay Secondary School with “Save Sandy Bay”. The defending monarch is Tia Wyllie of the Thomas Saunders Secondary.

The junior soca monarch finalists are Tia Wyllie of the Thomas Saunders Secondary with “De Whole Place Mash Up”; M’Riah Robertson of the West St George Secondary School with “Carnival”; Omari Davy of the New Prospect Primary School with “ICT Technology”; Delisha Brackin of the Sandy Bay Secondary School with “Gimme Soca”; Richard James of the Belair Government School with “ABC”; Ariel Turtin of the Greiggs Government School with “Shake your Bumpa”; Sakora Loraine of the Sandy Bay Secondary School with “We Playing Mas” and Delanzo Lavia of the Sandy Bay Secondary School with “Accident.”
