“Mr Edson Augustus has been recalled from his posting with immediate effect,” Gonsalves told SEARCHLIGHT, following a function at the Ministry’s conference room in the administrative complex.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday gone received certain reports that Mr Augustus may have been acting beyond the scope of his authority and in a manner that was not in concert with the interest of the Government and people of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

“We received confirmation of at least some of those reports, and then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs acted very promptly in recalling Mr Augustus with immediate effect,” he added.

The Ministry then issued a release to the media, which also stated that all matters touching and concerning the said activities are under further review.

Augustus, who resigned as a pastor of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Region of Seventh Day Adventists on February 10, 2011, joined the consulate in June 2011.

His resignation came in the midst of allegations levelled against him, which he chose not to comment on, when asked by SEARCHLIGHT back then.

SEARCHLIGHT understands that Augustus was, up to press time, still in the United States, despite his recall.
