The CARIFESTA delegation joined other performers at Heritage Square in Kingstown on Sunday, as part of activities to celebrate Tourism Month, and to welcome tourists and crew members of the cruise ship Balmoral on its inaugural visit.

Spectators saw performances by calypso and soca songstress Shaunelle Mckenzie, pannist Rodney Small, drummers N’Zimbu, Sulle and Mwata, as well as members of the dance troupe and others, who performed cultural pieces in colourful outfits.

Most of last Sunday’s performances were those showcased in Suriname during the August 16 to 25, 2013 event, held under the theme “Celebrating our diversity and promoting the central role in social, economic and human development.”

Also on display were a number of local foods and crafts, as well as souvenirs, and fun and games for children.

The Balmoral is one of more than 50 vessels which will make a total of 149 scheduled visits to St Vincent and the Grenadines this season.

The crew was presented with a plaque by officials from the Ministry of Tourism to mark the ship’s inaugural visit.(JJ)
