Lily and Nickie share Primary crown

Latifah ‘Singing Lily’ Richards, and Amunik ‘Singing Nickie’ Martin shared the Primary School Calypso crown. But the decision has not gone down well in certain quarters.

Some teachers from the Calder Government School have dismissed the results. One teacher described it as “creative foolishness.”{{more}}

He added that the action appeared to have been pre-arranged.

“This is cooked,” the teacher went on and looked at the event as “competition fixing.”

Singing Lily, rendered the song ‘Don’t use we.’ She was second in order of appearance, with Singing Nickie kicking off the show at Carnival City, Victoria Park, with her song “Rebuild that Vincy culture.” Singing Lily herself scoffed at the judges ruling ad cited: “I suppose to get it. Not she,” referring to Singing Nickie. Singing Nickie won the Primary Division in her first outing in 2004. Franeica Glasgow representing the Park Hill Government dethroned her last year.

Third place was also shared between Donella ‘Singing DP’ Power of the Calder Government School, and Odylia Providence of Lowmans Leeward Primary School. Singing DP was into her fifth year at the Primary School level. Her best placing was second in 2004, followed by third position last year. Her number was the ‘The slogan.’

Odylia’s rendition was ‘Bring the Vat.’

Ackelia Cornwall of the Park Hill Government shared the fifth position with Reneka ‘Singing Rene’ Harry also of the Calder Government with her composition ‘Don’t do drugs.’

Other competitors in that division were lone male, Iran ‘Breadfruit’ Pompey, from Sandy Bay Primary with: ‘In jumbie land,’ Jasian ‘Singing Jazzy’ Gardener: Belair Primary: ‘Ah victim of Aids,’ and Jolisa ‘Singing J.T.’ Tash: C. W. Prescod Primary: ‘St. Vincent No.’
