Thomas, a 27-year-old resident of Biabou, was Monday charged for having unlawful sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl. This offence was allegedly committed with the minor at Cane Garden between 12.05 p.m. and 2 p.m. on December 6, this year according to the police.

Thomas was taken before the Family Court Monday and released on $10,000 bail with two sureties pending the start of the preliminary inquiries.

As part of his bail conditions, Thomas was ordered to surrender all travel documents and to report to the Biabou Police Station every Friday between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. He was also ordered not to leave the country without the court’s permission.

Thomas is scheduled to return to court on February 2, next year.

The Police Public Relations Department on Monday said Thomas is expected to be placed on suspension pending the outcome of the charge against him.

Monday’s was the second criminal charge slapped on the police officer this year after he had been arrested and charged by his colleagues for assaulting Ian Samuel of Biabou, causing him actual bodily harm on May 29, this year. He was taken before the Calliaqua Magistrate’s Court where he pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on bail in his own recognizance.

Thomas was granted permission to return to work on August 18, after more than two-and-a-half months on suspension with a half-month’s salary.
