Trial begins of man charged with shooting death of his nurse wife

A husband is standing trial at the High Court for allegedly killing his wife, during a daylight shooting in Kingstown in 2020.

Mitchell “Mitch” Israel is being tried for murder at the High Court #2 in connection with the death of his wife, Arianna Taylor- Israel who was gunned down at Kingstown Park on January, 30,2020.

Director of Public Prosecutions, Sejilla Mcdowall, is leading the crown’s case along with senior crown counsel, Richie Maitland.

The accused is being represented by counsel Linton Lewis and Maffika Lewis.

A 12 member jury is hearing the evidence at the trial which started on July 4, and is expected to last for about two weeks.

The crown is expecting to call at least 25 witnesses to testify in the matter.

The deceased who was born in Cuba but moved to St Vincent and the Grenadines was a nurse at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

The woman was allegedly shot in the vicinity of the St Martins Secondary School sometime after 3:00 p.m.

She later died at the hospital where she worked.
