Farmer of Glen granted bail on firearms related charges

A 27YEAR old farmer of Glen was granted bail in the sum of $16,000 when he appeared in the Serious Offences Court (SOC) on July 5 on firearms possession charges.

Omando Mofford was arrested on July 5 and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of unlicenced ammunition, and possession of an offensive weapon, a release from the police stated.

The police said their investigations revealed that Mofford allegedly had in his possession one black and silver Smith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic pistol, serial number TFR7136, and ten rounds of .9mm ammunition without a license issued under the Firearm Act.

Mofford was also charged with having in his possession an offensive weapon- “a pair of black scissors and a gold letter opener” in a public place without lawful excuse. He is said to have had these items in his possessionin Kingstown between 9:45 p.m and 10:00 pm on July 4.

Mofford pled not guilty when he appeared in court and was granted bail with several conditions attached.

He is to report at the Calliaqua police station every Monday and Thursday between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

A curfew is to be observed from 7:00 p.m to 6:00 a.m. Mofford was also ordered to surrender all travel documents; and he is to seek permission from the court if he desires to leave the state.

His matter was adjourned to September 8, 2022.
