Colonarie man faces murder charge, as victim succumbs to his injuries

A CHARGE HAS been upgraded to murder after a Troumaca man who had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), succumbed to his injuries.

On Tuesday, June 7, 49-year-old Kenneth Davis of Colonarie who was remanded at Her Majesty’s Prisons, appeared at the Serious Offences Court (SOC).

The charge that he, on March 16, at Byera, unlawfully and maliciously caused grievous bodily harm to Douglas Codougan, 69 years of Troumaca, was withdrawn.

It was replaced with a charge that, on March 16, at Byera, Davis, with malice aforethought, caused the death of Codougan.

Prior to this, on April 12, Chief Magistrate, Rechanne Browne denied bail to Davis after the prosecution, led by Station Sergeant Renrick Cato, informed the court that not much had changed in the condition of the alleged victim, who had continuously been in the ICU of the hospital. Cato had noted that they were just hoping for the best.

Codougan was reported to have received injuries to the head after being kicked and hit with a cutlass.

Davis is set to return to the SOC on July 7.
