Bag snatchers targeting women early in the morning

Women should beware of bag snatchers who patrol the streets of Kingstown in the early morning hours looking for their next victim.

Superintendent, Clauston Francis, head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) was speaking on radio this week when he noted that the police had observed a developing trend where perpetrators were targeting women walking to work on mornings.

“These offences are occurring between 5 and 6:30a.m so I want the women in particular in the division, Kingstown to be aware of this and to take the necessary precautions when leaving home all by themselves in the wee hours of the morning when they go to work,” Francis said during the March 21 “On the Beat” programme aired on NBC Radio.

He pointed out that they observe this occurrence within the past three weeks.

“Where practicable…ensure they walk with a partner or maybe a vehicle can take them directly to their work so that they can be a little safer. But we have had several reports of this. It is unique to us, now developing and we want the public to be aware of it,” the superintendent said.
