Two charged in SVGCC vault heist

Kamorni Antoine, the man who last Sunday, returned to St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) from Barbados after police issued a wanted notice for him, has been charged.{{more}}

Antoine, 24, a resident of Glen, has been charged with burglary, jointly with 18-year-old Shane Cabral, also of Glen. Both men appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to the charge. They were granted bail in the sum of $50,000 with one surety.

The men are charged with burglarizing the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) between August 28 and 30, and stealing a vault, a tablet device and cash amounting to $45,955.01, the property of the SVGCC.

Antoine and Cabral have been ordered to surrender all travel documents and report to the Calliaqua Police Station twice a week. They have also been placed on a 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. curfew. The matter has been adjourned to October 12 for hearing.

Attorney Israel Bruce represents Antoine in the matter, while Grant Connell appears on Cabral’s behalf.

Antoine was brought back to SVG from Barbados by Bruce on September 13, after police issued a wanted notice for him. Police said he was wanted in connection with a series of burglaries and was considered “dangerous.”

It is alleged that the vault was kept in a cupboard at the college, which was usually locked. However, reports are that the cupboard was not locked at the time of the heist. It has also been reported that the money stolen had been collected as registration fees from students.(KW)
