Football coach nursing severe burns after attack

Up to press time yesterday, former national football defender Wesley ‘Butu’ Charles was still nursing severe burns about his body at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, following an attack.{{more}}

SEARCHLIGHT understands that Charles, who is the assistant coach of the national football team, was doused with a substance at his home in Brighton between 3 and 5 a.m., on September 12.

It is alleged that Charles, 39, was asleep at the time of the attack.

When contacted, the pubic relations department of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said the matter has been reported and investigations are ongoing.

Charles is considered in many circles as one of the best defenders to ever play for St Vincent and the Grenadines, having made 100 appearances and scoring four goals, according to Wikipedia.

He has also played club football overseas for several clubs, spanning from 1998 to 2011.

When contacted, head coach of the national team Cornelius Huggins declined to comment on the matter. Several calls to telephone numbers provided for president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) Venold Coombs went unanswered.(KW)
