When he appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Alison Endeavour, a 29-year-old resident of Arnos Vale, blamed his intoxicated state for the fact that he stole not one, but two bottles of Sunset rum and a bottle of White Oak rum, with a total value of $57.69.

He pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to the facts, at about 4 p.m., on August 2, at the Super J supermarket at Arnos Vale, the security guard saw when Endeavour entered the supermarket and proceeded to the liquor shelves.

The security guard observed when Endeavour picked up a bottle of Sunset rum and placed it in the waist of his trousers. Endeavour then walked quickly past the cashier, following which he was apprehended by the security guard.

A struggle ensued and the security guard had to be assisted by an employee.

Endeavour was taken to an area and was searched. That search revealed another bottle of rum hidden in his pants crotch. The third bottle of rum was found in his pocket. Endeavour told the court that he went to buy bread, but stole the rum because he was drunk.

Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias handed down the sentence.(KW)
