Two youths to pay for drugs

Devorn Charles a 20-year-old trimmer of Paul’s Avenue and Nyanga Sam, 22 years of the same address are expected to pay sums of $1500 and $750 respectively after pleading guilty to having in their possession 22 grams of cocaine and a quantity of Cannabis.{{more}}

According to police reports, officers of the Drug Squad and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) went to execute a search warrant in the house where both of the men lived.

During the search, the officers found a black plastic bag with some wrapping containing cocaine under some galvanized iron, while another bag containing cannabis was found in a wheel chair at the back of the yard. Upon discovery of both bags, both Charles and Sam denied ownership at first then admitted that the bags belonged to them. During the trial on Monday, Charles admitted that the bag with the cocaine belonged to him while Sam admitted to owning the Cannabis.

In handing down his sentence, Magistrate Browne encouraged the both men to stop selling illegal substances and to find something more constructive to do with their time. Both men are expected to pay the fine within the next 6 weeks or spend 10 months in jail. (SB)
