Bajan, St. Lucian arrested for cannabis possession

A non-national has again entered our shores illegally and committed a criminal offence.

On Monday, Barbadian national, Laron Randolph was fined $200 forthwith by Magistrate Zoila Ellis Browne for possession of 10 grams of cannabis at Rose Bank on April 14, 2007. Failure to pay the fine, he would spend a week in prison.{{more}}

At about 5.40 p.m. Narcotics personnel were on mobile patrol duty in that area when a motor vehicle was seen travelling towards the police patrol.

Officers signaled the driver of the vehicle to stop. The law officers approached the vehicle and conducted a search which revealed a transparent plastic bag in Randolph’s right front pocket.

Police officers said that the defendant came here on a speedboat about two weeks ago with two other men, but the vessel sank and Randolph was staying on the Leeward side of the island.

The defendant was cautioned and replied, “Is jus ah small piece ah weed.”

Another non-national was called to the defendant’s box to answer a charge of drug possession. St Lucian national, Myron Elivique was fined $200 after pleading guilty to having 44 grams of cannabis at Questelles on April 15, 2007.

The court heard that the defendant was seen by members of the Special Services Unit (SSU) walking along the Questelles public road. Elivique acted suspiciously, so the police requested a search and found a transparent plastic bag in his back pants pocket.

Within a two-month span, this country has seen a number of foreigners being brought before the court for criminal activities.

On March 19, 38 year-old Grenadian, Ian Blackette was arrested and charged with the murder of 22 year-old Kenford “Killa Loop” Samuel of Rillan Hill. Samuel was shot in his back in the Public Road at Rillan when an unknown vehicle pulled up and opened fire.

Just before that, on February 20, 2007, Reynold Castle, a 23 national of Arima, Trinidad who resided in Glen was arrested and charged for the February 16 stabbing murder of 20-year-old Cornelius “Monkey” Scott. Scott received a stab wound to his neck and succumbed to his injuries at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

The preliminary inquiry into that matter is slated for April 19.
