Owia man charged with possession of cannabis

Cuthbert Lavia, 34, labourer of Owia would have to find $500 by March 2 or spend eight weeks in jail.

Lavia pleaded guilty at the Serious Offences Court on Monday after being charged with having 143 grams of cannabis in his possession on February 3 at Sion Hill.{{more}}

The court heard that about 6.50 p.m. the Narcotics squad was on mobile patrol in the Sion Hill area when a motor vehicle was seen traveling in the opposite direction.

The vehicle was signaled to stop by the officers and on approaching the vehicle, Lavia was observed throwing a taped package out of the window.

The bag was retrieved and found to contain the illegal substance cannabis. Lavia was cautioned and replied, “Is ah small piece of weed ah man gimme.”
