Man arrested for cocaine,ganja

Thirty-four year old Brian Matthias of New Grounds was earlier this week arrested and charged with cocaine and marijuana possession.
A Special Services Unit (SSU) officer was on duty about Grenville Street around 10.10 p.m. Monday when he spotted Matthias cutting up some marijuana leaves in the area of Isles Boutique.{{more}}As the uniformed officer moved closer, he saw Matthias pushing the marijuana in his pocket. He then confronted Matthias, conducted a search on his person and found a rock of cocaine and twenty-eight grammes of marijuana in his pocket.
When Matthias appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to the cocaine and marijuana possession charge. He was fined $200.00 for the cocaine and $75.00 for the marijuana. He was ordered to pay the fines by 3.00 p.m. yesterday, Thursday, failing which he faced a prison sentence of 28 days.
Matthias had previous convictions for marijuana, firearm and assault bodily harm.
