Sixteen years ago he started a career in the insurance industry as a sales agent at Colonial Life Insurance Company popularly called CLICO. Like the company, Beresford Phillips has grown and today holds the post of Agency Manager. {{more}}
In August 1988 Phillips joined CLICO’s staff and by December that year he was rated the company’s top producer. Last year he repeated that feat when he reaped business in excess of EC$1million.
In 1990, Phillips qualified for membership in CLICO’s prestigious Leaders’ Club. By 1991, Phillips was promoted to special agent. In 1993 he was upgraded to unit manager and served in that position until 2000 when he was made agency manager, along with Harvey Graham, to marshal CLICO’s sales agents.
Reflecting on his career, Phillips pointed out that one of his greatest achievements was qualifying for the prestigious Million-Dollar Round Table, and he has been doing so for the past three years.
“I basically see insurance as my career, what I can do best. This career is responsible for making me who I am today,” he disclosed.
Besides insurance, Phillips has a passion for politics. Although he would like to make a contribution in that field, he sees it as a sacrifice to leave the insurance industry.
Sharing his view on CLICO’s new home, Phillips says he is the happiest of Vincentians: “Over the years we worked in deplorable conditions. Today I feel proud that we have a building of our own.” He mentioned that he raised the issue of the company’s home at almost every management meeting and he was glad that it had become a reality.
Phillips is thanking his team of agents for the support that they have given to CLICO and to him. Phillips Agency, as the team is called, markets ordinary life insurance, health insurance, and single or group health/life pensions. The agency also sells several interest sensitive products designed for people looking to invest where they can obtain reasonable returns. Plans such as the executive flexible premium annuity are offered, educational endowments, and others.
