Four ways to build your brand as a small business

Quite often, small business owners hear the word brand and suddenly think branding only applies to big businesses. No matter your size, your brand is your reputation. So, think about it; what is the reputation of your business? What is your establishment known for? Or what do you want to be known for? Your business or event brand is the sum of all the interactions and experiences your customers and potential customers have with it. Check out some inexpensive ways to build your small business brand:

1. A name and logo that stands out

When customers hear your event or business name or see your logo, they should be able to immediately identify your services, products or business overall. Be mindful of all the places your name and logo will appear, from promotional materials to packaging to social media.

2. Empower your customers

You may want to set your brand in whatever direction your current, as well as potential customers can determine how your brand/business is perceived in the marketplace. Why not turn your customers into brand ambassadors for your small business? How? How about offering them an incentive for a social media check-in. This will keep your brand top-of-mind and spread your message across your customer’s network. It all leads back to customer loyalty. 3. Don’t try to imitate the big boys – Craft your own identity and highlight why you are different from a bigger company offering a similar product or service and make sure your customers know it.

4. Don’t be afraid to seek expert advice – The entrepreneur life can be tough at times and you may feel as if you are alone on an island. You don’t have to do it alone – you can spend some marketing dollars and hire an outside consultancy to help with your branding and marketing; or how about having a brainstorming session with your staff, or even family and friends?
