Firearm discovered in barrel at Port Kingstown

Just days after the Customs and Excise Department announced enhanced surveillance measures for barrels and packages coming into the country, an illegal firearm was discovered.

SEARCHLIGHT understands the discovery was made on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at the cargo warehouse at Port Kingstown.

Based on intelligence received, police and customs enforcement officers conducted a search on a barrel which originated in Georgia in the United States.

Upon examination, a 9 mm firearm was found among the contents of the barrel.

An individual arrived at the warehouse to clear the barrel and was reportedly questioned.

The increased surveillance comes in line with the holiday duty-free concession period where an increased number of barrels and other personal packages are imported into the country.
