A mathematics paper of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) which was written today, Wednesday, May 17, 2023 was leaked prior to the exam to some students in at least one Caribbean territory.
SEARCHLIGHT has confirmed that photographs of the pages of the CXC Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Mathematics Paper 2 were shared in a chat app the night before the exam and were seen by some students of at least two secondary schools in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
“Some of them saw it on Tuesday night, others on Wednesday, just before the exam,” one source told SEARCHLIGHT.
The source also said that according to students who wrote the exam, the questions that were circulated prior to the exam were the same questions the students were required to answer in Wednesday’s exam.
A St Vincent and the Grenadines Ministry of Education source also confirmed to SEARCHLIGHT that they had received reports of the leak. However, none of the Ministry of Education officials spoken to by SEARCHLIGHT was willing to say what steps will be taken.
SEARCHLIGHT reached out to CXC Headquarters in Barbados for a comment, but no reply was immediately available.
However in a release issued later on Wednesday, the CXC said it is “aware of the concerns that the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC®) Math Paper 02 which was written today (Wednesday, 17 May 2023) was leaked.
“This matter is of great concern to us, we have commenced our investigations and will make a definitive statement once the investigation is completed. In the meantime, candidates can rest assured that this matter is being treated with the highest urgency.”
