The Mighty Sparrow – Calypso King of the World baptised in New York (+video)

The Mighty Sparrow widely considered to be ‘The Calypso King of the World’ was baptized today, Saturday September 3, 2022.

Sparrow, whose given name is Slinger Francisco was taken into the water of Holy Baptism by Vincentian Seventh Day Adventist Pastor Claudius Morgan, popularly known as “Samaritan Singer”, himself a former Calypsonian.

Dressed in all white, Sparrow had his water baptism in New York.

The 87-year-old Calypso bard is known for many of Calypso’s oldie goldies such as ‘Jean and Dinah’, ‘Drunk and Disorderly’, ‘Marajhin’, ‘Saltfish’ and many others.

Sparrow, who now resides in Queens, New York once ruled the Calypso landscape in Trinidad and Tobago and the rest of the world.

Born in Grenada, Sparrow made his recording debut with ‘Yankees Gone’ in 1956.

Sparrow is an eighth time winner of Road March and Calypso King titles in Trinidad and Tobago.

He is now known as Brother Francisco, a member of the Linden Seventh Day Adventist Church in New York.
