Search for missing vessel with six on board ongoing

[UPDATED]

The six persons who are missing in the waters of the Grenadines have been identified as Claudia Williams, Charmain De Souza, Nedd De Souza, Montgomery Hazell, Jose-ann John and Sharon Simmons.

The search for a missing dark blue/purple speed boat/fishing boat in the waters of the Grenadines continued early this morning after it was suspended yesterday evening because of rough sea conditions and poor visibility.

Yesterday around 4.55 p.m., a distress call was sent out by the vessel which was returning to Mustique from Canouan. The boat was moving six passengers, two males and four females, between the Grenadine islands when it began taking in water and sinking.

A distress call was sent out by one of the passengers who reported a hole in the boat. The last location was reported as near Petite Canouan.

The search is being led by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard with assistance from a number of other entities.

According to reports, all of the missing are employed on Mustique. Two are said to be a couple from Byera, with the others being from Barrouallie, South Rivers and other parts of the country.
