Ah Fruitful Christian Ceremony
Zaina, one ah my four Great-Grand-Daughters is taking First Communion on Sunday, and ah dare not miss de Ceremony. Ah was up front and present two years ago when Isla, her elder sister took First Communion. Ah got to share de Love; already dey’s ah teeny-weeny bit ah rivalry foh attention between de two girls. Two lickle tricksters when dey ready. Last year dey came to visit me while ah was home nursing a damaged knee dat was cased-up in “ Plaster of Paris.” Immediately upon arrival, dey did not even greet me, but pull-out several packs of coloured markers and crayons, headed straight foh de white plaster covering my knee and dey had an uninterrupted Art Class. Suddenly dey went unusually silent and ah sensed dey were up to mischief. So ah looked at de cast dey had covered wid painted objects, including ah comical looking portrait of ah male wid beard and long dread-locks, dey even had me laughing when one ah dem said: “Papa dat’s you!”
More the reason why ah have to be present in Church on Sunday. Too many of us parents, aunts, uncles, grand, and great-grand -parents are noticeably absent, we fail miserably as ah family unit, when these special Church events, need our presence. On the other hand, we are up front foh graduation awards and prize giving, at sporting or cultural presentations, indeed, we should be, but events dat draw de young ones closer to God, Spiritually and Socially we missing in action.
FULL MARKS FOH DE RC CHURCH
During my short four score plus years, I can attest to de Spiritual commitment of de Roman Catholic Church with regards to our children’s Educational (schools) and Spiritual beginning chief of which is the Three Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) dat marks the completion of a member’s Spiritual journey. So First Communion is ah sign of Spiritual Fruit-full-ness! Ah Big Day! probably de Biggest Day for Catholicism, dis Noble Organisation. It is ah very serious ceremony, when ah candidate receives the body and blood of Jesus Christ in the bread and wine. I am not Cat-lik, ah Christian however, and ah firmly believe in de Power of de Eucharist, (partaking of the Bread and de Wine), but when ah say wine ah doh mean juice, Wine! My mission on Sunday is therefore to identify wid de families of some 15 Newly Born in Christ, as dey celebrate their Faith and Divine communion with God. Ah blessed First Communion to all. And wid dat is gone ah gone again.
