Rockies man with 46 convictions jailed for theft

A Rockies man, who has been convicted 46 times, has now been sentenced to prison for four years and four months for stealing gallons of paint from the General Employees Cooperative Credit Union Ltd, (GECCU).

Alvan Richardson, 45, appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Tammika McKenzie, on May 30,2024, where he was sentenced for entering the store room of GECCU as a trespasser on July, 28, 2025, and stealing two one-gallon buckets of paint; two two-and-a-half gallon buckets of paint- one Orange and one White, brand unknown valued EC$384.20; one case of paper towels, brand unknown- valued EC$55.00- a total value of EC$759.20. at Kingstown, the property of GECCU.

The facts are that the virtual complainant has been a car park attendant at GECCU, Kingstown for about four years.

He had responsibility for opening and closing the gates, along with securing the compound at this location on Halifax Street.

The GECCU building is a two-storey concrete, fenced compound located between Middle Street and Halifax Street. It has a rail protective barrier and a white, steel, sliding gate on the section at Middle Street which is used to enter the car park.

There is also an outside stairway from the ground floor to the upper floor and the fencing. The storeroom inside the building has a wooden door secured by a bolt and padlock.

There is an outside bathroom with a metal and iron bar door attached to the storeroom, and there are CCTV cameras on the GECCU building that monitor the entire compound.

On July 26, 2024 at about 4:30 p.m, the attendant secured the car park by locking the sliding gate. The storeroom and bathroom in the area of the stairway were also secured with their respective locks.

Three days later at about 7:15 a.m, the attendant arrived at work and unlocked the car park using the key. He entered the compound and immediately observed that the storeroom door was opened.

This aroused his suspicion, and the attendant made checks where he found that the previously mentioned items were missing.

As a result, he reported the matter to his supervisor, then to the Criminal Investigation Department.
