Kione De Shong buckets two more Carifta Swim medals
Kione De Shong is carving his own pathway in swimming as one of St Vincent and the Grenadines’ top junior competitors with his consistency at the Carifta championships.
This, as he ended his sojourn at the April 3-8 Carifta Aquatics Championships, April in Martinique, with two medals.
De Shong took silver in the 13-14 Boys 200 meters Breaststroke in 2:39.53 on the night of Saturday, April 4, at the at the Centre Aquatique Pierre SAMOT in Fort- de- France, Martinque.
Then on April 7, he timed 1:11.70 in the 50-m Breaststroke to place third and grab a bronze medal, to add to the previous four at Carifta.
In 2024 De Shong gained a bronze medal, and followed up with gold, silver and bronze in 2025, making it three consecutive occasions that he has medalled at the Carifta Championships.
He is only bettered by former Vincentian Junior stand out, Shne Joachim who has more consecutive medal takes. Apart from De Shong’s two medals, he reached the final of the 50-m Breaststroke and 100-m Freestyle, finishing 5th, and 8th respectively.
Also making the finals for the Vincentian all-male quartet was Caghry Williams, who was in the last eight of the 50-m and 100-m Breaststroke, with Hazen Da Briel doing so in the 200-m Backstroke for the 15-17 age group.
De Shong’s medals meant that St Vincent and the Grenadines has ended on the podium of the Carifta Championships for the twelfth straight time.
