Australia Women out front against Windies Women at Arnos Vale
AUSTRALIA WOMAN took an unassailable 2-nil lead against West Indies Women on Saturday night, March 22, 2026 before a large and vocal mostly Vincentian crowd, at the Arnos Vale Cricket Grounds in the 3-match T20 International Series.
Crucial contributions from the bats of Georgia Voll, 39 from 23 deliveries; and Ellyse Perry 42 from 28 balls, helped the visitors to 164 for 5.
After a slow start, West Indies captain Hayley Mathews, accelerated to 56, but it was not enough to secure victory for the team, although the other batters kept West Indies in the hunt for a victory.
West Indies lost the services of Chinelle Henry to a left hand injury while fielding in her follow through at the start of the game.
Matthews at one stage had scored just 1 run off 12 balls before finally breaking free to make 56 from 41 to give West Indies hope of hauling in 75 from the last 48 balls with nine wickets in hand.
However, Alana King extinguished all hopes, picking up the wickets of Matthews and Stafanie Taylor to finish with 2 for 25, and earn the player of the match award.
Deandra Dottin finished on 39 not out from 28 deliveries, but the Windies women still fell short by 17 runs, finishing on 147 for 4.
Saturday night’s victory gives Sophie Molineux her first series victory as captain, despite not bowling or batting in either game after carrying a back injury into the tour. Australia had also lost Ashleigh Gardner pre-game due to hamstring tightness.
Meanwhile in the opening game of the 3-match Series on Thursday night, Australia Women won by 43 runs, thanks to Beth Mooney’s 79 off 55 balls, as others struggled with the bat on a slow surface.
A 99-run partnership with Ellyse Perry formed the cornerstone of Australia’s innings which had laboured during the power play and finished with a wobble – the first six overs bringing 34 for the loss of 2 wickets, and the last three overs gleaning just 23 runs. Australia Women made 164 for 6. The teams played their final game on Monday evening.
