SVG holds on to Bilateral Youth Chess title
Led by perfect performances from team Captain Vedant Shetty, and Arianna Balcombe, along with steady efforts from Nathaneal Lawrence, Le’ Mar Abbott and Stacy Baptiste- King, St Vincent and the Grenadines retained the Chatoyer Bilateral Youth Chess Tournament title on home soil.
The quintet edged out their Grenadian opponents when the 2026 edition took place on March 14 and 15,2026 at the Sapphire Apartments and Hotel, Arnos Vale.
Going down to the wire, it was Lawrence who beat Aiden Victor in the decisive last match to propel St
Vincent and the Grenadines to a 13-12 win, the closest margin of victory since the tournament was inaugurated in 2024.
When the tournament was first held, Grenada triumphed 3-1, and in St Vincent and the Grenadines’ first win in 2025, the scoreline was 7-3.
Both Shetty and Balcombe emerged as the standout players, taking the trophies as Most Outstanding male and female, respectively.
By champing the Chatoyer title for the second year running, the Vincentians have completed a hat trick of wins over the Grenadians.
In February, 2026 the Vincentians journeyed to Grenada and took hold of the first ever Fedon Bilateral Competition.
