Handal Roban takes another gold at Big Ten Championships
After missing the 2025 Big Ten Indoor Championships, Vincentian, Handal Roban returned from where he left off in 2024, and was crowned the 2026 Men’s 800 meters champion.
On Saturday, February 28, 2026 Roban, competing for Penn State University at the Indiana Farm Bureau
Creek Pavilion, Indianapolis, USA, led a podium sweep for the institution.
Roban won the event in 1:46.44, ahead of his teammates- Allon Clay (1:46.65) and Niko Shultz (1:46.75).
Within 40 minutes of striking gold, Roban was back in the thick of things, claiming silver in the 600-m finals, stopping the clock at 1:15.59.
Roban, 23, is the St Vincent and the Grenadines all- time 800-m record holder. The Indoor record stands
at 1:444.73 and the outdoor is 1:42.87.
Additionally, Roban holds SVG’s Indoor 600-m and 1000-m records, as well as the records for the 800-m and 1500-m at the Under-20 level.
