Playaz takes charge of Community College’s Invitational Basketball
PLAYAZ ACADEMY HAS finally landed the title of champions of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College’s Invitational Basketball tournament, doing so last Friday,February 20, 2026 at the Villa Campus hard court.
At their third visit to the final, Playaz Academy came good against BlueChip Academy who were seeking a fifth straight lien on the title.
Playaz Academy led 9-4 at the end of the first period; 15-12 at the half way point, with the third quarter also in their favour, 30-27; and held on to win 40-33.
Player of the final, Captain Tayon Burgin, scored 13 points, while Aquando Henry added 11 for Playaz Academy. Leading for BlueChip Academy was Maxron Dublin who sank 22 points.
Earlier in the afternoon DTVE Ballers won the third place play-off with a 29-17 defeat of the DASGS All Stars.
The most valuable players were Leonardo Hooper of DASGS Trendsetters; Temal Gopaul of DASGS All Stars; Jemari Ross, DTVE Ballers; Maxron Dublin, BlueChip Academy; and Tayon Burgin of Playaz Academy.
Meanwhile, the most improved player for each of the units were: Ronaldo Bobb, DASGS All Stars; Kenroy Trimmingham, DTVE Ballers; Rayon Ryan, BlueChip Academy; and Tayon Burgin of Playaz Academy.
The top defensive player was Playaz Academy’s Zwayne Fisher, while Tayon Burgin received offensive mention.
The top offensive player and MVP was Maxron Dublin, with 144 points.
