Black Sand Swimmers grab 14 medals at Barbados Championships
FOUR VINCENTIAN swimmers from Black Sands Swim Squad delivered outstanding performances at the Barbados National Long Course Swimming Championships, returning home from the February 17-22, 2026 meet with an impressive tally of 14 medals.
The club in a release said Kione Deshong led the charge in the Boy’s 13-14 age group, with a haul of two gold, three silver, and one bronze medals, and recording four personal best times across his events.
In the Boys 15–17 age group, Matthew Ballah secured two gold and two bronze medals, and had two personal best performances, showcasing consistent excellence in the pool.
Also competing in the Boys 15–17 category, Seth Byron captured two bronze medals and achieved one personal best time, reflecting steady improvement.
Zariel Nelson added to the medal count with one bronze medal and recorded one personal best time, contributing to the team’s overall success.
The Club said the swimmers represented their club and St.Vincent and the Grenadines well.
Next up on the competition calendar is the SAC Invitational Swim Meet, to be held at the Shrewsbury Aquatic Center in Ratho Mill from February 26 to March 1. Families and supporters are encouraged to turn out and cheer on the teams as they continue their competitive season.
