Another Vincentian to play Major League Soccer
ANDREW JOHNSON, who has six international caps for St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), has been contracted to play professionally in the USA’s Major Soccer League (MLS0 for Charlotte FC.
The formalization of the deal for the 22-year-old Johnson, who made his debut for the country of his mother and father’s birth, was announced on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
Johnson, a defender, was always on the radar of Charlotte, after he was drafted last year; however he opted to complete both his Soccer (Football) career with Cornell University.
He was selected as the 47th overall pick when the MLS Super Draft was held last year.
Following the draft, current head coach of the St Vincent and the Grenadines senior men’s and Under-20 team, Ezra Hendrickson sought the services of Johnson and immediately selected him for duties- SVG versus Grenada, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico.
Incidentally, Hendrickson was the first Vincentian to play in the MLS, with Johnson poised to follow suit as the third. They sandwich is the present national senior team captain, Oalex Anderson.
The US born Johnson is the offspring of former national goalkeeper and wicketkeeper, Elton Johnson and Wendy Ann Roberts- Johnson.
Indications are that Andrew is already drawing plaudits as the towering central defender has impressed his new employers in matches with the Charlotte first team, thus giving credence to their choice.
According to information from Charlotte FC, Andrew has signed for the 2026 season, with the club having the option for June 2027, as well as 2027 to 2028, and 2028 to 2029.
Before signing to Charlotte, Andrew built his player profile with FC Delco; Philadelphia Union Academy; Lower Merion SC; Reading Union; as well as West Chester United.
