North Windward Netball Tournament off to a flying start
Four matches are down to be contested this weekend as competition in the North Windward Netball Tournament gets going. According to a release from the office of MP for North Windward, Shevern John, on Saturday, February 21, 2026 Owia Government School will come up against the Sandy Bay Government School from 3:30 p.m; and from 4:30 p.m Ball Blazers will take on Overland.
On Sunday, February 22, Fancy Beamers will do battle with Langley Park Government School from 3:30 p.m; and from 4:30 p.m, G Spot Simple Netters will play Trail Blazers Seniors. All matches will be played at Fancy.
The tournament officially opened at the Fancy Hard Court last Sunday, February 15, 2026 in what has been described as “a wonderful display of community spirit, youth involvement, and the power of sport to bring people together”. The programme opened with prayer, by Joyella Roberts, and also included words of appreciation from the Chair of the proceedings, Gweneth Baptiste-Stoddard, and remarks from the MP, and Minister of Social Development, Social Welfare and Community Empowerment etc, Shevern John, who “reiterated her strong commitment to sports development and the empowerment of young people throughout the constituency”.
She also encouraged sponsors and members of the corporate community to partner with the various initiatives, noting that there are many opportunities for visibility and branding through upcoming events on the North Windward calendar.
Minister of Youth and Sports Kaschaka Cupid, a former national cricketer, reaffirmed the government’s continued investment in youth and sports development and encouraged the young people to remain actively involved. He also noted that while the tournament is utilizing the facilities that are currently available, the government remains committed to upgrading and improving sports infrastructure which will further enhance opportunities for athletes and communities across St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Chairman of the North Windward Sports Committee, Collin Stay, also delivering remarks, encouraged the youth to stay focused, participate in sports, and take advantage of the opportunities being created across the constituency; while Secretary of the SVG Netball Association, Kerri-Ann Stay delivered remarks on behalf of that association, during which she reiterated its commitment to grass-roots netball development and to strengthening the sport throughout the country. The tournament was officially declared open by Minister, Shevern John following which there was an exhibition all-male versus all-female exhibition match that provided entertainment to spectators.
The Overland Ballers are the defending champions.
Early winners last Sunday were Overland Ballers, who won the march past; and Ball Blazers, who won the netorama.
