Shallow to complete unfinished tasks
PRESIDENT OF CRICKET West Indies (CWI), Vincentian, Dr. Kishore Shallow has indicated that he will not step down from his current role, amidst his recent appointment as Minister of Tourism and Maritime Affairs in the new Cabinet St Vincent and the Grenadines, and calls for him to step down.
Shallow was the successful candidate in the North Leeward Constituency in this country’s general elections held on November 27, 2025, Since then there has been debate as to whether he should relinquish his position as head of the regional Cricket organization, and calls for him to resign.
However, in a pre-recorded statement aired last Sunday, December 7, 2025, on You Tube and Facebook, Dr. Shallow gave reasons why he will complete his tenure but will not seek re-election come 2028.
“I have thought long and hard about this. My conviction is that the work ahead requires steady leadership and a commitment to completing the reforms already set in motion. It is for this reason that I will conclude my current term, but with the intention not to seek re-election”.
He said his decision was also hinged on completing some unfinished tasks.
“With clarity about the work still before us, I will use the remainder of the term to complete the reforms we began, and to support the development and implementation of our Strategic Plan until 2027,” Shallow stated.
He thus declared that there is no “conflict” for him holding the two substantive positions, and pointed to due diligence conducted that prefaced his final decision.
“We have, therefore ,conducted comprehensive due diligence to ensure all legal and ethical standards are fully met. While there is no conflict of interest, the legitimate question is whether I can effectively manage both portfolios,” he outlined.
“ Having consulted widely with our board and leadership, I can assure you that I can and will.”
Shallow was re-elected unopposed as President of CWI at their Annual General Meeting in May of this year. Shallow was first elevated to the position of Cricket West Indies in 2023, having earlier served as Vice- President of the organization from 2019 to 2023.
Underscoring the need for continuity, Dr. Shallow explained that: “When I first accepted the responsibility of serving CWI, I did so with a clear objective to help restore the integrity of the organization and advance meaningfully governance reform. Our aim has always been to create a stronger foundation that can ultimately support improved performances on the Cricket field”.
Shallow, 41, hastened to add that the post of President of the CWI is not one of remuneration.
“The presidency of Cricket West Indies is not a salaried role. In other words, it is not a job. It is not a traditional nine-tofive position, nor is it based at our headquarters in Antigua,” he said.
The Minister of Tourism of St Vincent and the Grenadines said the CWI operations are bolstered by a strong organizational structure, hence he is able to carry out his duties effectively.
“We are fortunate to have an experienced CEO in Chris Dehring who oversees the organisation’s daily operation with support of over 50 competent fulltime staff members. As I‘ve always said, West Indies Cricket has never been a one- man operation, and it should never be. It is a shared responsibility,” Shallow said.
Before his incremental rise in regional Cricket administration, Dr. Shallow served as Assistant Secretary and President of the SVG Cricket Association, as well as President of the Windward Islands Cricket Board.
As President of CWI, Dr. Shallow is a Board Member of the International Cricket Council- ICC.
