Senior Squash players miss CASA Championships
WHEN THE ROLL call was made last Sunday, November 23, at the opening of the 2025 Senior Caribbean Area Squash Association’s Championships, at the National Racquet Centre, Guyana, St Vincent and the Grenadines did not respond, “present please”.
This, as a decision by the executive of the SVG Squash Association, not to field a team because of circumstances that were beyond them.
The association’s President, Amber Glasgow in giving a background to the country’s absence from the championships, cited players’ availability and the rising costs associated with participation.
“We were all ready and raring to send a team, however, some of the key players were unable to train adequately for a championship of that magnitude.Their inability to give that commitment stemmed from again personal family situations”, Glasgow told SEARCHLIGHT.
Glasgow said that the cost of participation proved another negating factor as the fee per player has doubled from US$ 300 to $600.
The 2025 edition was shifted to Guyana following the devastation in parts of Jamaica because of Hurricane Melissa, that made land fall on the island on October 28,
2025. Jamaica was the original host country.
However, despite the non-participation of St Vincent and the Grenadines at this year’s senior CASA, Glasgow is upbeat about the country’s future presence at the all-important regional Squash championships.
“Senior CASA, like the Junior championships are good gauges for us to assess our development programmes and structures here in St Vincent and the Grenadines, hence it is imperative we attend these as we forge to continue make Squash a force for us on the regional landscape”, the SVG Squash president said.
The 2025 Senior CASA Championships conclude November on 29.
