Savante Padmore retains Under-11 title at Barbados Junior Squash Open
Reigning Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association(CASA) Under -11 champion,Savante’ Padmore lifted St Vincent and the Grenadines’ lone title at the 2025 Barbados Junior Squash Open that took place from November 13 to 16, at the Barbados Squash Club, Hastings, Christchurch.
Padmore, who won the Barbados Under-11 Boys title in 2024, pressed a repeat in 2025, beating all who dared challenge him. In the round robin format, Padmore registered 3-0 wins over Tristan Noble and Carter Farmer, but against another Vincentian- Zavin Garrick, he trumped 3-1.
Looking to add another title under his belt, the Under-13 Padmore, saw off Zachary Lashley and Thierry Padmore, each by three games to nil.
However, in the title match versus Finn Graham, Padmore lost 2-3 as the match went the distance.
Padmore won the first two games, before Graham stormed back to take the other three.
Apart from Padmore, two other Vincentians- Zavin Garrick and Ethan Webster contested the Under-13 age group.
Both Garrick and Webster had one win with Garrick defeating Elian Hamati 3-0, and Webster ousting Toby Hoost by the same scoreline. The two then suffered 3-0 losses to Finn.
Higher up the age group, Webster took the runner-up spot in the Under-15 with a solitary 3-0 win over Jaylen Brewster, but suffered similar fates when he met Ethan Cyrus and Finn Graham.
In the Under-17 Boys, Aiden De Freitas repeated his second place as in 2024, recording wins over J- quan Stephens and Ethan Cyrus. De Freitas, who strolled to 3-0 wins over his previous opponents, was however defeated by Ben Shepherd, who beat him by the same scoreline.
Stephens, a late addition to the St Vincent and the Grenadines team, also lost out to Shepherd and Cyrus.
Another second place was achieved by De Freitas in the Under-19 age category.
Following 3-0 wins at the expense of Kai Shepherd and Caden Collymore, De Freitas had his fortunes reversed when he met Ben Shepherd.
Meanwhile, Ciara George claimed second place in the Under-19 Girls, achieving a 3-0 win over Choofy Hoost; and trumped 3-1 over Thalia Knight. She lost to Lenna Hamati by a 3-1 score.
And, Caeli George beat Kaitlin Farmer 3-0 in the fifth and sixth place play off in the Under-15 Girls age grouping. Before that, Caeli failed to get over Olivia Watts and Peyton Marshall- Brancker, losing by 3-0 margins.
The seven players were accompanied by parents, while for national youth player- Nadira Morgan who is based in Barbados, assisted the team.
