Damari Frederick is Best Server at ECVA Men’ U-23
St Vincent and the Grenadines did not retain the Men’s Under-23 title in the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball 2025 tournament, but Damari Frederick left his mark on the event that was staged from November 12 to 16, at the YMCA Indoor Facility, St John’s Antigua and Barbuda.
At last Sunday’s closing ceremony, the Vincentian captain and stand out player, according to the statistics, was the best server.
St Vincent and the Grenadines who won the title in 2023 when it was held in Tortola, finished with a 2:4 loss ratio.
The Vincentians landed fifth place among participating teams. Their two wins came versus last placed, Anguilla. In the preliminary round St Vincent and the Grenadines defeated Anguilla 3-0(( 25-20, 25-16, 25-12), and in the fifth/sixth place play off, trounced the Anguillans 3-1( 24-26, 25-17, 25-19, 25-21).
On the other side of their fortunes, St Vincent and the Grenadines was defeated by St Lucia, Grenada, Dominica, and Antigua and Barbuda.
The Vincentians were beaten by St Lucia 3-0 ( 25-17, 26-24, 25-12), and by Grenada also 3-0 (25-19, 25- 17, 25-19).
However, as the tournament wore on the Vincentians grew in confidence and this was reflected by the scores in their next two matches.
Against eventual winners Dominica, St Vincent and the Grenadines was beaten 3-1(25-14, 20-25, 25-13, 25-17), and against Antigua and Barbuda, the Vincentians forced a five -setter, but lost 3-2( 23-25, 19-25, 25-11, 25-19, 15-12).
Host, Antigua and Barbuda, placed second, Grenada -third, St Lucia- fourth, and Anguilla- sixth.
