Kent and Premraj shine through at COTECC event
Two of St Vincent and the Grenadines’ representatives at the 2025 Chatoyer Confederation of Tennis of Central America and the Caribbean (COTECC) Under-14 Championships were double winners.
Ethan Kent and Loukhya Premraj were singles and doubles champions, when the event ended on Thursday, October 23, at the National Tennis Centre, Villa.
Kent won the male singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Tzuriel Percival of St Kitts and Nevis.
His dominance was evident from the get-go, as he had a 6-0, 6-1 dumping of Garrick Pilgrim of Barbados, and beat another Barbadian, Cruz Thornton, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
Meanwhile, Premraj was won all three matches in the round robin format among the females.
The results showed Premraj registering a 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 win over Destiney Antoine of Grenada.
Premraj also saw off Ritchie Gay also of Grenada, 6-0, 6-0, and swished Zhara Hypolite of St Vincent and the Grenadines 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles play, Kent combined with Pilgrim to outlast Liam Cave and Thornton, to champ 6-2, 6-2, despite some resistance from their opponents.
Similarly, Premraj and Hypolite beat Antoine and Gay 6-3, 6-1, to take the Doubles title.
The other title claimed at the October 18-23 championships was by Grenadian Jayden Bristol, who defeated Cuban, Krish Puga, 6-2, 6-2, in the consolation final.
Apart from the trophy winners, honourable mention was given to Akquin Johnson and Nathaneal Lawrence who reached the singles and doubles semifinals, whilst Tarrell Mc Nicholls got to the singles and doubles quarter- finals.
The executive of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Tennis Association, organisers of the Championships, have indicated an intention to revert to the July/August period in 2026, as the 2025 edition suffered from poor participation because it falls smack into the school term.
