SVG’s archers pouch medals and records at CDC event
Archers in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) returned home from the prestigious Caribbean Development Championships (CDC), held in Trinidad and Tobago with a pouch of medals and two new CDC records. A release from the Archery Association of SVG said a seven-member team of archers competed in the October 23-26 tournament held at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, Trinidad and Tobago by the CDC under the aegis of World Archery Association.
Six of the seven archers returned with medals in 10 categories, and also set two new CDC records.
In the Recurve Development men, Rayon Clarke took gold, with Richol Richards scooping a bronze.
Divya Jiandani got silver in the Recurve Development Under-18 for women, and silver was attained by Dimetre Hadley in the Under-18 age category for men.
In the Doubles Teams category, Richards and Karen Palmer attained silver, whilst setting a record of 1077 points.
Meanwhile, Jiandani found an ally in Aria Batchasingh of Trinidad and Tobago to take silver in the women’s Under-18, with Hadley doing likewise in the Under-18 men, teaming up with Jeremiah Hermanstyne of the British Virgin Islands.
The Vincentian duo of Richards and Ian Gibson won silver in the mixed doubles; Palmer and Courtlee Rodrigues combined to win bronze, while Hadley and Anhia Perex of Puerto Rico gained silver in the Under-18 age group.
Jiandani, with Guyanese Saifullah Gani, took gold in the Under-18, and also set a new mark, as they tailed 1090 points.
The other Vincentian archer who made the trip was Marese Burgin, she did not get a podium finish.
Bouyed by the team’s performance, President of the Archery Association- Sanjay Jiandani, who served as coach at the championships, commented that, “The success of Team SVG at this year’s CDC event has earned them the support and respect of the Caribbean Archery family. Future opportunities in the sport have already begun presenting themselves to our National Federation”.
