Young Legends take title in Mega Football in Redemption Sharpes
Young Legends of Redemption Sharpes emerged victors in a football tournament of the Central Kingstown constituency with matches being played on weekends at the Sharpes playing field.
Speaking at the Mega Football Tournament’s closing ceremony on Sunday night, October 12, 2025, Marvin Fraser, the Unity Labour Party’s candidate for the constituency, who along with other persons planned and executed the tournament, told participants: “we started it eight weeks ago…and it all started because of your vision, your enthusiasm, and what you wanted to see”.
“…when I came into your homes to have discussions with you…you are the ones who said that you weren’t having any activities in Redemption Sharpes. I wanted to see a big football competition because you wanted something to bring the community together. You wanted something to unite the communities. You wanted something special, and I decided that I was going to do something grand for you guys”.
Fraser reminded that a spin-off from the tournament was also to give persons the opportunity to vend and make some money to assist their children returning to school, and to pay their bills.
“The competition for me and for others is a great success in that it has accomplished such a mission. It has accomplished the mission of ensuring that we had unity, camaraderie, love, peace, professionalism, football, and a lot of fun. It also accomplished the mission of ensuring that people were able to come out and make some money and be able to put some money in their pockets…”, Fraser said, as he also promised that the tournament, is not the end for the people of Central Kingstown.
Fraser said the next move is to have netball, and a small goal competition in Green Hill, and a cricket or football small goal competition on the Largo Heights playing field.
In the finals, Young Legends of Redemption Sharpes defeated Largo Heights Big Yard 6- 5 on penalty kicks after drawing nil-nil in regulation time to take the title, and Kingstown Park took the third place trophy with a 3-1 defeat of Richmond Hill.
Earlier, the Mona Academy won the Under-15 football competition, with System 3 FC taking the second spot, and Hilltop placing third.
