Guy Lowe thankful to see his grandson play for SVG
When Delano Benjamin stepped on the field at the Arnos Vale Playing Field in the late second half for the St Vincent and the Grenadines’ senior men’s football team,Vincy Heat on October 5, 2025, in an international friendly, it was a significant milestone for former national football stalwart, Guy “Chow” Lowe.
For the senior Lowe, who represented St Vincent and the Grenadines from 1970 to 1983, it was a joy to see
Benjamin following in his footsteps.
Benjamin thus completed a feat that Lowe never dreamt of, as he also lived to see his son, Rodney “Chang” Jack don the colours of St Vincent and the Grenadines on the football pitch.
Jack, like his father, terrorized defenders who dared crossed their paths, and discovered that their lightning speed and dribbling abilities was a nightmare.
Benjamin, though, plays in the midfield position.
“I am thankful to Almighty God to live to see my grandson represent St Vincent and the Grenadines as I did,” a beaming Lowe told SEARCHLIGHT.
It was ever more gratifying for Lowe, who served as Benjamin’s first coach, during his formative football days.
Through the commitment of Lowe, and with Benjamin as the mainstay, that combination saw the St Mary’s Roman Catholic School reaching the final of the Primary Schools’ tournament in 2017.
After his standout year in 2017, Benjamin, then a student at the St Vincent Grammar School, was one of two Vincentian representatives to a Gazpron/ FIFA Football for Friendship Programme held in Russia.
He, along with Jade Browne, witnessed the opening match of the 2018 FIFA World Final that featured Saudi Arabia and host, Russia.
Looking back Lowe restated his joy at seeing the fruit of these early years.
“Hopefully I would live to see one of my great grands play too for St Vincent and the Grenadines. You never know,” Guy Lowe quipped.
