Project Motion SVG hosts Football Competition
IN KEEPINGWITH its mandate to use the avenues of Sport, Technical/Vocation Education and Literary Arts to inculcate positive attitudes among the youths of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), the National Commission on Crime Prevention’s Project Motion SVG staged its 7 v 7 Small Goal Football Tournament last Saturday, September, 27, 2025, at the Calliaqua Playing Field.
The action-packed evening featured competitive matches across Under-13, Under-17, and Senior categories, with participation from local clubs and organisations including System 3 FC, which entered two teams; along with Awesome FC, New Beginnings FC; Stubbs PoliceYouth Club; YB Calliaqua Ballerz; and Genesis Talented Ballerz.
The event delivered an exciting blend of football, family fun, music, and youth empowerment, drawing teams and spectators from across the community.
During the formal segment, Jomadean May, Director of Sport and Physical Activities, delivered brief remarks on behalf of the Minister ofYouth and Sports, underscoring the Ministry’s commitment to supporting grassroots football and youth engagement. Dr. Nigel Scott, Project Coordinator for the GreaterYouth Volunteerism Engagement (GYVE) initiative, also endorsed the event, using the platform to highlight the importance of volunteerism and to invite young people to register for GYVE.
And, right on cue, teams and individuals were able to sign up for the GYVE programme on-site, ensuring the momentum of the tournament extends into long-term youth development and community involvement.
Organisers hailed the event as a success, blending sport, culture, and social development under the banner of Project Motion SVG and, in the process working towards the goal of helping develop law-abiding citizens.
Lead of Project Motion SVG,Timora Peters said. “With the strong partnerships and visible community buy-in, the 7-vs-7 tournament reinforced the programme’s mission to offer young people positive alternatives and opportunities to thrive”.
Peters noted that given the success of last Saturday’s event, such undertakings will continue, thus offering greater participation from other teams, which have already indicated interest in being part of the Football competition.
Delighted at the prospects, Peters reiterated that her grouping sets out to fulfil its purpose of giving youth opportunities that will steer them away from social deviance.
