GTC launches North Leeward Tennis outreach
As part of the Grass-root Tennis Club’s (GTC) intention to see tennis played in all 15 constituencies across the state, the club has initiated a programme in North Leeward.
Having set up the first programme in North Windward, North Leeward thus became the second undertaking, when
last Wednesday, September 17, 2025, coaches of the GTC descended on the Petit Bordel Secondary School’s hard court, where students of that institution got their first taste of tennis.
President of GTC, Grant Connell, said that the club will never be defined by two courts and a club house. “We are a conduit between talent and opportunity, hence, we continue to contribute to the development of the sport.”
Connell informed those in attendance that each court will be equipped with nets and rackets which will be allocated to the area, with a person in the area being in charge of the programme.
“We have tilled the soil and sown the seeds, now we are asking the Division of Physical Education and
Sports within the Ministry of Sports, who will assist especially in the rural areas… to do the watering and manicuring as they are blessed with one of the most qualified coaches in the country, Ms Roxanne Williams,” Connell commented.
He praised the management of the Petit Bordel Secondary School for readily accepting the GTC’s offer to start a programme at the institution.
“We at GTC are also grateful to the unwavering commitment of Trevor Sam to tennis; this man is an unsung hero, one who is selfless in sharing his knowledge of tennis.”
Connell noted that his organization is pushing ahead with the aim of having Grass-roots Tennis launched in all 15 constituencies, and is optimistic of procuring corporate support for the nation- wide venture.
