Maloney reduces national 800m record again
The St Vincent and the Grenadines all-time women’s 800m record, now stands at 1:57.29.
The mark was lowered by its custodian, Shafiqua Maloney, at the Diamond League event on Thursday, August 28, 2025, in Letzigrund, Zürich Switzerland.
Although her clocking at that event saw her in fourth place, Maloney wiped out the previous national record of 1:57.59, achieved in her standout performance in the semi-finals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Before her latest national record -breaking run, Maloney timed 1:58.69 at the preliminaries of last year’s Olympics.
Maloney has been consistent at erasing that national record. On May 31, 2024, she clocked 1:59.31 at the Edwin Moses Legends Meet in the USA and two weeks prior Maloney recorded 1:59.77 at the USATF Los Angeles, Grand Prix.
Later this month, Maloney will feature for St Vincent and the Grenadines at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
At present, Maloney holds a world ranking of sixth.
