Vincy Sailing Club Sailors dominate in National Championships

AFTER TWO DAYS of competitive sailing staged by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Sailing Association, in conjunction with the association’s High Performance Centre at Coconut Grove, the 2025 national sailing champions have been determined.

Twenty- two sailors from mainland, St Vincent, along with Bequia, Mayreau and Union Island, competed for honours on Wednesday, August 27 and Thursday, August 28, in 12-knot trade winds, at Calliaqua Bay.

Winning the ILCA 6, was Kai Marks- Dasent of Vincy Sailing Club, who took first places in eight of his 12 races. Second to Marks-Dasent was Scarlett Hadley, also of Vincy Sailing Club, while the third place was pouched by Norfick Forde of Mayreau Junior Sailing Club.

Trumping the ILCA 4 category was Joshua Weinhardt who claimed seven races, with Keyon Harris taking honours in six of his 12, to champ the Optimist category. Trailing Weinhardt was Jordi Lewis, and third was Benjamin Cyrus, making it the Vincy Sailing Club’s sweep of the top three positions.

In the Optimist category, Keyron Harris won ahead of his fellow Junior Sailing Academy, Bequia team mate, Kemuel Bynoe.Third was Samiah Haywood of the Mayreau Junior Sailing Club.

The championships was piloted through generous donations from Blue Life Yacht Charters, CG United, Island Sipz, KFC, Kestrel, Tradewinds, and the St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee.
