SVG Rep’ in podium position at 35th Pan American Youth Chess Championship

Young Vedant Shetty representing the St Vincent and the Grenadines Chess Federation (SVGCF) placed third in the Under 10 Absolute Rapid Tournament category at the recently concluded 35th Pan American Youth Chess Championship held in Peru. The tournament which brought together top young chess talents from across the globe, was held from July 27 to August, 3, 2025.

The young Chess player, was making his mark again one year after having placed first in the XIX Central America and Caribbean Youth Chess Festival 2024 in the under- 8 category.

The SVGCF has extended congratulations to Shetty on his outstanding performance.

“Vedant’s performance showcased not only his strategic strength and dedication to the game but also his ability to compete among the best young players,” the Chess Federation said in a release.

“ This impressive finish highlights the rising talent within our youth chess community.”

The Federation noted that it continues to attract more children to the sport as part of its grassroots development programme by hosting its first ever

Youth Chess Summer Programme, which has been taking place at the St Vincent Grammar School.

The programme is facilitated by Oris Robinson, Committee Member of the SVGCF, and coordinated by Ronnia

Durham-Balcombe, Vice President of the SVGCF.
