Ministry of Health and fitness stakeholders make pitch for Vincy Moves as a way of life

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, in collaboration with Team Athletics SVG, on Saturday, October 22 launch Vincy Moves, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

A multi-sectoral health and wellness initiative, Vincy Moves plans to bring together the nation’s health districts, sports associations, fitness groupings, walking groups, gym operators, fitness instructors and enthusiasts, interested individuals and communities, in forging and sustaining movement for healthy living.

On the basis and intentions of the initiative, the launch will not be a one- off event, according to Chief Health Promotions Officer, Shanika John.

She made this clear last Sunday, October 9, at the French Verandah Restaurant, at a brunch to bring together interest groups to share insights into the Vincentian input into a wider Caribbean initiative to inculcate a healthy living culture into the Vincentian society going forward.

“The Vincy Moves Initiative is not a just one- off initiative… Once we have launched the initiative, we will begin to roll out different arms of what Vincy Moves means to St Vincent and the Grenadines” John emphasised.

PRESIDENT OF Team Athletics SVG, Keith Joseph

Meanwhile, one of the major partners in Vincy Moves, Team Athletics SVG, will be playing its part in ensuring the sustainability of Vincy Moves.

This was reinforced by President of Team Athletics SVG, Keith Joseph when he spoke at last Sunday’s brunch.

“It has to do with maintaining a healthy balance in terms of physical activity…It has to do with increasing our productivity. It has to do with our attentiveness and the things what we do…

“We believe in our own lives that we begin the process of paying greater attention to our wellness that can spill over to the rest of the society”, Joseph said.
He also underscored the need to have physical literacy being part and parcel of the national psyche.

“ We cannot boast of being a developing country if we are not paying attention to our health”, Joseph cautioned.

He further advised that physical literacy be engendered in every sector of the Vincentian society, beginning as early as the pre-schools.

The official launch of Vincy Moves will be held under the theme, “ Let’s Get Moving”.
