Joevandy Joseph gets first taste of Table Tennis title

JOEVANDY JOSEPH won the Under-16 category of the St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) Table Tennis Association held its Assessment Tournament last Saturday at the West St George Secondary School in recognition of the month of independence.

The left -handed Joseph, a student of the West St George Secondary, and a resident of Mala Village, Sion Hill, beat Lamont Gregg 11/4, 11/4, 11/4 en route to his first title.

Before getting to the final, Joseph, a member of the Sean Stanley Table Tennis Academy, overcame Zayden Cyrus 2 games to 1: 11/5, 14/16 ,11/6 in the semi- finals, and in the other, Gregg outdid Kimoni Shoy two games to one: 11/7, 12/10 ,12/10.

Shoy then went on to take the third place, beating Cyrus three games to luv: 11/8 ,11/8 16/14.

Meanwhile, Damion Dublin had a 4: 1 win over Akeil De Roche in the final of the Under-35s.

Dublin won 11/2, 12/10, 11/7, 9/11, 11/4.

In one half of the semi-finals, Dublin beat Joevandy Joseph three games to luv: 11/1 ,12/10,11/8.

Akeil De Roche had the better of Kimoni Shoy three games to luv:11/4, 11/5 ,11/7.

The third-place match saw Joevandy Joseph beating Kimoni Shoy four games to luv: 11/8 11/4, 11/2, 11/7.

The next event on the SVG Table Tennis Association’s calendar is an all -female tournament carded for

Saturday, October 15 at the NDP Headquarters.
