Saints march on to T/20 cricket title

Guardian General Saints completed a perfect sojourn in this year’s Neil Williams T/20 cricket competition, by capturing the title last Saturday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

Saints came away winners by three wickets over FLOW Radcliffe in a battle royal.

Sent into bat, Radcliffe posted 139 for 5 from 18 overs, as the match was reduced because of a late start.

Deron Greaves (42) and Romano Pierre (29), compiled 85 for the first wicket, but the rest of the Radcliffe batting did not support them.

Geron Wyllie scalped 3 for 19, to be Saints’ most successful bowler.

Saints were put on the back foot early, when they lost their most prolific batsman, Sunil Ambris, for 5.

However, Ambris’ elder brother Romel Currency measured his innings to see Saints across the line. Currency ended on 68 not out, including 4 fours and 6 sixes.

He shared in six partnerships, all over 20 overs. Currency was severe on Othniel Lewis, whom he hit for 23 in the 16th over, to bring Saints within touching distance.

Alex Adams chipped in with 24, as Saints finished on 142 for 7, with an over the spare.

Delorn Johnson was Radcliffe’s most successful bowler, taking 2 for 28.
